Will YG ever change? BLACKPINK Re-Signs with YG Entertainment

On December 6, YG Entertainment officially announced that all four members of BLACKPINK – Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa, and Rosé renewed their contract with the company for group activities. However, they have not confirmed if the members signed with YG for solo activities. YG said ‘Discussions are still ongoing’ – for the members’ solo contracts.

YG also mentioned that the group plans on releasing a new album and do a large-scale world tour. The company hasn’t confirmed any dates for their comeback or next tour.

Given how YG Entertainment isn’t the strongest company in Kpop (at least not how it used to be) many wonder if they will ever change how they manage their groups. Will they continue giving BLACKPINK minimum comebacks with a long hiatus in-between, along with a rushed tour schedule? Or will the company manage their comebacks and tour in a consistent, timely manner?

It seems unlikely that YG will change their management style since that formula led to BLACKPINK’s success. But that formula is not likely to work with newer groups like Treasure or BABYMONSTER in today’s kpop industry.

If it wasn’t for BLACKPINK re-signing with YG, the company’s future would not be looking too good. Only time will tell if YG will ever change how they manage their groups, especially with BLACKPINK.

BLACKPINK (블랙핑크) is a kpop group that consists of 4 members: Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa, and Rosé. They are under YG Entertainment.

BLACKPINK’s discography includes: “DDU-DU-DDU-DU”, “Forever Young”, “See U Later”, “Kill This Love”, “Don’t Know What To Do”, “BOOMBAYAH”, “WHISTLE”, “PLAYING WITH FIRE”, “STAY”, “As If It’s Your Last”, “Lovesick Girls”, “Pink Venom”, “Shut Down”, and more.

Each member has released solo music as well. Jisoo released the songs “꽃(FLOWER)” and “All Eyes On Me”. Lisa released the songs “LALISA” and “MONEY”. Rosé released the songs “On The Ground” and “Gone”. Jennie released the songs “You & Me” and “SOLO”.

Hopefully with this new contract Jisoo, Lisa, Jennie, and Rosé will have more input on how they want the group to be managed. After all, they are saving the company.
