I’ve been a huge fan of watching the Oscars since I can remember. Some years have been great while others were….completely horrible! So did the Oscars get the nominees right this year?
Today I’ll just talk about the nominations for best picture:
- “Call Me by Your Name”
- “Darkest Hour”
- “Get Out”
- “Lady Bird”
- “Phantom Thread”
- “The Post”
- “The Shape of Water”
- “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”
Honestly I was surprised to see Phantom Thread, considering I just found out about that film when I watched its trailer before I saw Darkest Hour.
My point of view at these nominations is probably biased considering I’ve only seen…wait for it…brace yourself…don’t hate me…only Dunkirk and Darkest Hour. It’s been a pretty busy couple of months (I graduated, have a full time job, a dog to take care of).
Anyway, from watching several other award shows and reviews “The Shape of Water” and “Lady Bird” seem like strong contenders but the number one movie that has absolutely taken me by surprise (mostly cause I never heard of it until the Golden Globes) is “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri”.
That movie seems to get all the awards and there’s SO MUCH buzz about it. It looks like it has a strong story and cast. So I think, as of right now, “Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri” will take home several Oscars.
Will it take home best picture? I don’t know.
I don’t want to make the same mistake as last year, assuming the movie that won a Golden Globe would win an Oscar (La La Land I will forever love you and you are the best movie in my heart).
Despite my very little knowledge of these movies, I will definitely watch them before the Oscars. I believe we can’t judge a movie until we’ve seen it (no matter what people and reviewers say).
So if anyone needs me I’ll be spending my time off in the movie theaters with a big ol bucket of popcorn.
Have you guys seen any of the nominated movies?
Feel free to tweet me and let me know!
