The long awaited debut of YG’s latest boy group Treasure is not too far now. Their official debut date will be August 7, 2020.
Treasure is a group that was formed in YG’s survival program called “Treasure Box” from that show twelve guys made it to the final lineup: Hyunsuk, Jihoon, Yoshinori, Junkyu, Mashiho, Jaehyuk , Asahi, Yedam, Haruto, Doyoung, Jeongwoo and Junghwan.
On July 19, YG released their debut concept teaser. The teaser fuses technology, science and discovery creating the “treasure effect”. It’s a very intriguing video, you can watch it here.
In some of my previous Treasure videos I discussed with viewers in the comments on what concept Treasure could potentially have. YG has been good at giving unique identities to their groups. No two groups are alike. Yes, YG is currently home to BIGBANG, Winner, IKON, BLACKPINK, AKMU and various artists as well in their sub labels.
Treasure has released multiple videos of them showcasing their talents (which you can also see that in the show “Treasure Box”, I highly recommend watching it). This group can dominate concepts and genres from hip hop to pop. They released a song (not part of their official debut) called “Going Crazy”, it’s fun and youthful. Many believe this song could be an indicator on the type of music Treasure might release.
One of the members, Bang Ye Dam, released a solo track called “Wayo” in June. Yes, that song made it on my top favorite songs from June (you can read that post HERE). It was written by their label mates Seungyoon from Winner and Chanhyuk from AKMU. It’s a beautiful song and it really showcases Ye Dam’s vocals. Also some of the members from Treasure (Jihoon, Junhyuk, Mashiho, and Jeong Woo) sang the song as well along with Ye Dam.
Now that we were able to see a general idea of the concept Treasure will have it’s safe to say they will create their own concept and image. Because they mixed different things in their debut teaser, I have a feeling their music will also be a mix of various genres.
I’m glad to see Treasure will have their own identity and they’ll be able to (hopefully) stand on their own and not be compared to any of their senior groups. This debut definitely has the Kpop world sitting on the edge of their seat anticipating what this group has to offer.
I look forward to their official debut and wish them all the best in their musical endeavors.
