Watching BTS’ speech in the United Nations General Assembly, was one the highlights of my week. On Monday, September 20th, I was sitting at my desk in my boring office job when I tuned into BTS’ speech.
I was expecting their speech to be short and sweet. But I was pleasantly surprised when all seven members were given a chance to share their message. Their speech was well crafted, sincere, and to the point.
Words without action is useless. But BTS are examples of what happens when you actually take action.
BTS spoke directly about our generation – the challenges we face, how our generation is handling the pandemic, and the future.
Although I loved what all the members said, some of my favorite words came from Jin and RM.
Jin spoke about this generation saying, “I think that’s why instead of the ‘lost generation’ a more appropriate name is the ‘welcome generation’. Because instead of fearing change this generation says welcome and keeps forging ahead.”
RM continued right after, “That’s right, if we believe in possibilities and hope even when the unexpected happens we will not lose our way, but discover a new one.”
RM closed their speech with these words, “We thought the world had stopped but it continues to move forward. I believe that every choice we make is the beginning of change not the end. I hope that in this new world we can all say to each other welcome. Now as we look forward to this future, “Permission to Dance” is our message of welcome that we want to show to everyone today.”
Right after they played their special performance of “Permission to Dance”.
Here’s the video of the full speech from President Moon Jae-in and BTS.
If you’ve been following BTS for a long time or you recently heard about them – there’s no denying they are doing something no other group has done.
I’m sure future generations will look back at this time in history and be inspired by all seven members. Jin, RM, Suga, V, J-Hope, Jimin, and Jungkook, broke countless of barriers and touched the hearts of millions around the world.
They share powerful messages in their music but they also take action. I hope their speech and their performance will bring some light to your life and reignite your hope for the future. I also hope you’ll find strength in their story – to keep holding on to the things you are passionate about. Because you never know the change you can bring to the world.
P.S. Can we talk about how good all the members look in their suits! V (my bias) and Jin (my bias wrecker) make my heart melt. I LOVE this look. But more importantly I’m proud of what all seven members have accomplished. 😀
