The other day I wasn’t feeling too well so I sat in front of the TV and picked a movie to watch. Honestly I NEVER HAD ANY interest in the film I picked. I knew the YA novel it was adapted from was popular. Many teens seem to love it. But I had zero expectations (actually I probably had negative expectations on the film).
So the movie starts. Nothing special. Everything’s predictable. A typical YA romance, contemporary novel that takes place in a quiet boring town (no it’s not from John Green).
But as the movie builds up so does my interest.
There were certain scenes in the film that really hit me in the gut.
If I would’ve seen this movie when it came out I probably wouldn’t feel the things I felt.
Last year two wonderful, amazing, human beings from my family passed away. It was hard. It hurt. Therefore I was able to connect with the movie more than I thought.
The movie I’m talking about is “If I Stay”
The one scene in the film that really hit me was the scene when the grandpa is by Mia’s bedside. She’s still in a coma. And he tells her he wants her to stay with them (the family) but if she wants to go…she can go. I couldn’t hold back my tears because I know how it feels to tell someone that.
NO it’s not the best movie I’ve ever seen. But it caught me by surprise and it tugged my heart.
I’ll admit I catch myself listening to the music played in the movie. I think “If I Stay” really shows how precious and fragile life is and we should never take any day (with our family and friends) for granted.
